Santuario de Fauna y Flora Iguaque (Boyacá)
The Santuario de Fauna Y Flora Iguaque is a beautiful site near Villa de Leyva (Boyacá), with an equatorial forest and the so-called Páramo at high altitudes (above the tree limit) where you meet all seasons and weather types in a couple of minutes. The vegetation is increadibly diverse. According to a Muisca legend, one of the lakes (the Sacred Iguaque Lake) was believed to host the place where Man was created. The Santuario hosts a plethora of ferns, orchids, bromeliaceae and typical equatorial and Páramo vegetation. The trails are often steep, damp in the forest and very slippery and muddy above the tree limit (Páramo).
